about us

We feel strongly that it is our responsibility to respect and protect the environment we live in as we strive to make a living with our art. Our salt glaze process is now environmentally safe and non-polluting.

Historically, salt glazing is a pottery making process made popular in the 1800’s where common rock salt is burned in a white-hot kiln to form a glaze on the pottery. The salt vaporizes in the path of the fire and develops a glass coating on the surface of everything in the kiln. This primitive method of pottery glazing enriches the surface of the ware and emphasizes the character of the potter’s work.

Today, few potteries do salt glazing due to the plume of salt vapor and chlorine gas the process releases into the air. We have developed a process to create salt glaze pottery without the pollution associated with “salting”. This has been achieved without compromising the quality of our ware.

As an added benefit to the Studio and our customers, our new process offers exciting new design capabilities that were not possible using the old pottery making methods.
